Project Lela

Timely and affordable legal advice for navigating workplace issues

We're on a mission to close the wealth gap

The imbalance of power between individuals and corporations costs working professionals billions of dollars in lost wages, unemployment benefits, business litigation, and mental health care every year.

DISRUPTING WORKPLACE INJUSTICE ONE CONTRACT AT A TIME

We believe that business contracts, not internal workplace policies such as employee handbooks and anti-discrimination clauses, are the ultimate expression of the degree to which corporations commit to fair and just treatment of individuals. As such, we consider work contracts (and the labor policies that govern them) to be the most critical battleground for workplace diversity, inclusion, and equity.

BETTING ON CONSUMER LEGAL TECH TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD

In the case of fair and equitable employment, many workplace solutions target the corporation (and HR, specifically) as the ultimate buyer. As these products are designed to be attractive to employers, often enough, this creates a financial incentivize to address the needs of the corporation over its laborers--an uncomfortable but indisputable truth, particularly for mission-driven organizations. At Project Lela, we're side-stepping this challenge altogether by aligning our mission and organizational incentives entirely around the employee--the corporations' workers more generally.

POWERING POLICYMAKERS WITH INSIGHTS TO SHAPE THE FUTURE OF WORK.

We're creating a public data set that reflects the current state of workplace legislation - one that goes beyond hiring and diversity quotas to reveal insights about how individuals, including those belonging to systemically disadvantaged groups, are treated—as evidenced by the contracts they’re asked to sign.By establishing a benchmark for how individuals are treated by corporations today, our hope is that we'll be able to equip policymakers with insights they need to advocate for fairer, more equitable labor laws, tomorrow.
